Our Story

The Ship Inn has been a cornerstone of Sydney’s iconic history, originally standing tall a few metres closer to the Quay, from 1868 until it was rebuilt on its current site in 1902 directly over the mouth of the Tank Stream, on blackbutt timber piles driven 30 metres deep into the harbour mudflats. Given an art-deco makeover by Tooth’s Brewery in 1936, the Ship has now been reimagined in with a nod to its rich deco heritage, seamlessly blending timeless elegance with contemporary sophistication.

Nestled between two of Australia’s most famous landmarks – the Opera House and Harbour Bridge – our venue celebrates its storied past while offering warm hospitality and a true Sydney welcome.
